Senegal: An American Journey in Pictures

The following images were taken as part of three trips I took to Senegal, West Africa as a tourist with the Prince George’s County Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. My mother, Elois Hamilton, was the founding President. During her tenure, the organization hosted at least 5 trips to Senegal, West Africa. The first two times I went to Senegal, I photographed a series of images for the Black History Project, of the History Division of the Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission. To display those images, the Division, hosted a Black History Month Celebration. That first event turned into an annual celebration for the Park & Planning Department of Parks and Recreation. My Senegal photos would be displayed once again, after I took a second trip to the country with SCLC. Those images also included cultural items such as African cloth, wood carvings, and hand-made drums
