Reading and Prayer

Prayer:
3:42 am. Can't sleep. Worried about the election. V.P. Harris should be way ahead of Trump in the election. Why is this race so tight? People always say, "Pray about it." So, I went back over my reading list.

For me - READING IS THE PRAYER.
Yes, the world debates the kind of prayer - Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish, among others, along with the scholarly research that support the Bible, and other religious texts. Science, archaeology, carbon dating, anthropology, mathematics, history, methods of recording events, stories of events - the underlying disciplines that allow our faiths to be known.

As my daughter's father once said to her, "I just want some understanding."
My mother introduced us to the Unitarian faith. It has allowed me to embrace the spiritually unknown, but also to acknowledge the usefulness of intellectual inquiry. It ain't about being "woke" or any of that other stupid shit politicians try to slap on people trying to reach out for a wider "understanding." You don't have to know Jesus in a church. Sometimes you can know him sitting in a library reading a book.
I have no plans for anything other than V.P. Harris becoming the next President of the United States. What happens if she doesn't. So, the only thing I know to do, that helps me, is to PRAY ABOUT IT. So, in this hour. I have picked up a book.

Yes, I have several versions of the Bible, including King James's. But Lord, I want a greater understanding of man's inhumanity to man, and the ability of humankind to triumph in times of uncertainty.

I want my nieces, my nephews, my daughter to understand that when I am praying, I am reading. And right now, I really need prayer.

So, I am praying, by reading, "Black Women Will Save the World: An Anthem," by April Ryan.

Searching for understanding humankind in a time of uncertainty.
Faith.
